Aespa Giselle’s Ending Fairy For “Armageddon” Is Going Viral For A Disturbing Reason

“She’s just being playful you guys need to touch grass.”

On June 1, aespa performed their latest title track, “Armageddon”, on Show! MusicCore. As could be expected from the talented girl group, the members owned the stage with their powerful vocals and captivating choreography, and while “Armageddon” didn’t take home the music show award for that episode… Their other lead single, “Supernova”, did!

Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t seem to be the performance itself that’s getting the most attention online from the event. Instead, the ending fairies of the members — particularly Giselle — have captured people’s interest for a very disturbing reason, and many fans are repulsed by how it’s been interpreted.

All four of the members had their own ending fairy moment at the end of the performance, and they all went with a silly, tongue-sticking-out pose.

For Giselle’s pose, she added on an eyeroll to go with her playful expression.

But it seems like some people are interpreting this expression as Giselle making an ahegao face, which is “a term in Japanese pornography for a facial expression of characters during sexual arousal or an orgasm”. The characteristics of this expression include “rolling or crossed eyes, protruding tongue, and slightly reddened face”, and it’s often used in erotic manga, hentai, and other adult media in Japan.

Giselle’s expression at the end of their “Armageddon” performance thus drew a lot of attention online for unpleasant reasons, and became the topic of forum posts discussing whether she was intentionally making an ahegao expression.

Thankfully, many people have come to Giselle’s defense and believe that she was just being playful and making a “hot girl” expression, and are disgusted by how some people — presumably men — have interpreted her ending pose.

Regardless of this unfortunate situation, the aespa members really did give a great performance on Show! Music Core!
