[Cast Away] Noona romance powered by AI — or is it?
by mary
Don’t you just hate it when you’re short a few million dollars to produce a drama with your dream team of actors, writers, and directors? *pouts* Well, we found a way to scratch that itch!
In the Dramabeans community series Cast Away, Beanies can advocate for their chosen actors and creatives in imaginary roles.
How it works: We share a [very] hypothetical K-drama plot with you, and in the comments, you discuss who you think is the perfect cast to play the roles in this imaginary show.
This week’s K-drama plot: noona romance with hidden identity
After realizing that she’s stupidly falling for her AI “boyfriend” chatbot, a woman in her late 30s unsubscribes from the service to look for love in the real world. Based on what she liked about her AI boyfriend, she narrows down her ideal man to someone who’s a good listener and mature like her age.
The young barista at her usual coffee shop becomes witness to her string of disastrous blind dates with overgrown man-children. All of which ends with the barista and her (sans the date) laughing over what went wrong with each.
Meanwhile, he’s under the impression that she’s into older guys. He doesn’t know how to tell her that the AI company is fake, the “bots” are just part-timers, and he’s actually the one who’s been chatting with her all along. Can he spill the truth before one of her blind dates actually ends up sweeping her off her feet?
It feels like ages since we’ve had a proper noona romance. Let’s do some imaginary casting, shall we?
Who’s your vote for the noona who’s trying her bestest to be practical about love, only to be repeatedly disappointed by the universe because she’s blind to the signs.
Who will play the barista who’s always messing up someone’s order because he’s too busy trying to eavesdrop on his noona’s date?
And do we all agree that we need Yoon Park to cameo as one of the funny, but terrible blind dates?
If you have a plotline idea for future Cast Away posts, leave it in the comments. We’ll do our best to serve a fun twist on it.
