The Pokémon Trading Card Game has unveiled the latest in its Super-Premium Collection, focusing on the fan-favorite Gen 1 fire type, Charizard. Most notably, the set features an “ex” version of the character, whose attacks can have additional effects. While Pokémon TCG has seen various different, more powerful versions of its cards over the years, from EX, GX, V, and VMAX, the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet era brought back the more traditional ex-mechanic from the early 2000s.
ex cards were introduced during the Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire generation and followed the Pokémon TCG‘s stage-based system of evolution chains – something later types like EX did not – while making it clear which cards had additional effects. However, rules were also implemented in which knocking out a Pokémon ex card permitted players to draw two prize cards rather than one, something that seems less significant in the wake of the kinds of cards that followed, with VMAX cards being worth three.

What’s Included In Pokémon TCG’s Charizard Ex Super-Premium Collection?
The Set Includes A Charizard Figure With Fire Effects
As with previous Super-Premium Collection releases, there’s plenty included in the Charizard ex box, from booster packs from different Pokémon TCG expansions to exclusive foil cards of Charmander, Charmeleon, and, unsurprisingly, Charizard ex. One of the main features of the set, however, is an impressive Charizard figure featuring translucent fire effects that players can use to proudly display a favorite card, possibly even the foil Charizard ex card itself.
The item dimensions listed are 8.2 x 9.8 x 8.8 inches, which indicates that the figure will be slightly smaller than this, even though its specific dimensions are not listed.
The full contents of the Pokémon TCG: Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection are as follows:
- 1 foil promo card featuring Charizard ex
- 2 foil cards featuring Charmander and Charmeleon
- 1 card-display figure featuring Charizard
- 10 Pokémon TCG booster packs
- A code card for Pokémon TCG Live
The booster packs each contains 10 cards and 1 Basic Energy, but what these are these vary by pack and product.

Pokémon TCG Is Suffering Because Of Too Many Premium Releases
The Pokémon Trading Card Game has gradually upped the size of sets and the number of Ultra Rare, and it’s starting to get overwhelming.
How Much Does Pokémon TCG’s Charizard Ex Super-Premium Collection Cost?
And When Does It Release?
The Pokémon TCG: Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection is currently available for pre-order from Pokémon Center and will be retailing at $79.99. The store states that it is expecting to ship this product sometime in early October 2024, but customers will be informed of any changes to this date.
The price of the Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection is cheaper than the previous Pokémon TCG: Charizard Ultra Premium Collection set, which retailed for $119.99 upon its release in October 2020. This set featured holographic V, VMAX, and VSTAR Charizard cards, along with a playmat, card sleeves, metal coin, damage counter dice, condition markers, a VSTAR marker, 16 Pokémon TCG booster packs from Sword & Shield, a Sword & Shield TCG Series Player’s Guide, and a Pokémon TCG Live code. This set didn’t feature a figure like the Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection, and hasn’t massively increased in price on the second-hand market since it launched almost two years ago, with many selling it for somewhere between its retail price and $145.
Instead, the Charizard ex Super-Premium Collection price is closer to that of 2016’s Pokémon TCG: Mew and Mewtwo Super-Premium Collection, which similarly featured a figure of both Mew and Mewtwo, exclusive foil promo cards featuring Mew EX and Mewtwo EX, a code card for Pokémon TCG Live, and 10 Pokémon TCG booster packs. It’s worth noting that the Mew and Mewtwo Super-Premium Collection also included an art book, along with three collector’s boxes to hold everything, with 12 dividers for players to keep their collection organized.
According to Cardmarket, sealed copies of the Mew and Mewtwo Super-Premium Collection are selling for between €665 and €730, which is roughly $724 to $795. Thus, these sets can quickly increase in price on the second-hand market, making them a decent investment for collectors. Considering how Charizard is usually the most expensive Pokémon Trading Card Game card to be released each year – something that surprisingly wasn’t the case in 2024 as Greninja ex took that title – it’s extremely likely that this collection will reach even higher prices.
