In this poignant song, Youngji expresses the insecurities of being a larger girl with an outspoken personality, confessing her thoughts about how she believed her crush would prefer her if she were smaller or more reserved. However, the narrative takes a heartwarming turn as the crush reassures her, attempting to dispel her doubts and embrace her for who she is. KW: Fans enjoy your music and the fun you have anytime you’re performing and hosting. In an industry that has a lot of pressure and expectation, how do you make sure that your authentic self doesn’t get lost in the shuffle?

Lee Youngji: As someone who constantly thinks about how to consistently attract people’s attention, I always strive to improve myself in order to meet those expectations. As a result, I naturally find ways to develop various aspects of myself in a better direction. In the process, I tend to discover the sincerity and value behind why I do this work. In this positive cycle of people’s expectations and attention, and my efforts to meet them, I believe I always find and maintain my sincerity and sense of value.

KW: What do you feel like sets 16 Fantasy apart from your previous albums? Was there a different mindset you needed to work in to tell the stories on this album?

Lee Youngji: Before “16 Fantasy”, there wasn’t a properly completed album, so I had a lot of thoughts while preparing for this one. I was greatly inspired by my 16-year-old self, who was reckless yet brave, and with the intention of facing the world boldly from now on, I worked on this project. It was truly a meaningful experience for me! Going forward, I plan to be even bolder in conveying what I want to say to the world without hesitation.

KW: You collaborated with Christopher for the single “Trouble.” Do you have any memorable moments from your time working with Christopher?

Lee Youngji: When I met Christopher this time, he treated me just as warmly as he did two years ago when he appeared on my YouTube program. I was impressed by how he remains an unchanged, cool, and philosophical artist who approaches music with the same passion. Even when we worked together, he made sure it didn’t feel like work, keeping the atmosphere fun and lighthearted, which I think really infused that good vibe into the music. Thank you for giving me such a great opportunity! Christopher is the best!

She will continue on the Asia leg of her tour this December.

Special thanks to Lee Youngji and Kstage for the interview.
