Singer and actor Lee Hye-ri, also known as Hyeri of the K-pop group Girl’s Day, will return to the silver screen with the new musical film “Victory.”
The film’s distributor, Mindmark, announced Wednesday that the film will premiere on Aug. 14, unveiling a teaser poster.
Set in 1999, the drama film will follow two high school best friends, Pil-sun (Lee) and Mi-na (Park Se-wan), living in the coastal city of Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province.
Having a strong passion for dance, the two decide to join the school’s cheerleading squad, Millennium Girls. Along with the newly transferred student, Se-hyun (Jo A-ram), who has experience in cheerleading from a previous school, the three share their love for music and dance while navigating their life as teenagers in a remote small town.
Actor Lee Jung-ha, who rose to global fame with the hit 2023 Disney+ series “Moving,” will play the role of Chi-hyeong, who is Pil-sun’s close childhood friend.
“With the stellar cast of Hyeri, Park Se-wan, Jo A-ram and Lee Jung-ha, syncing right into their character 200 percent to show the greatest chemistry, ‘Victory’ will fill theaters with vibrant energy this summer,” the distributor said in a release.
The upcoming film is led by filmmaker Park Beom-su, whose previous work includes the romance film “Red Carpet” (2014) and the romantic comedy film “Single in Seoul” (2023).
Hyeri, who debuted as a member of K-pop girl group Girl’s Day in 2010, made her way into acting with tvN’s hit drama “Reply 1988” in 2015. Since then, she has starred in various series and films, including the romance series “My Roommate Is a Gumiho” (2021) and the action film “Monstrum” (2018).
