Just because I usually gravitate to male vocals (I can’t help that they’re easier to sing-along with!), it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy and appreciate the talents of the ladies of Kpop as well. This week I’m shining a light on a couple of new girl groups and a selection of fantastic, female vocalists. I’m excited to share these artists and songs, who have caught my attention over the past months! Cue the spotlight, in 3… 2…1
CHUU – ‘Howl’
I love the combination of the techno beat and Chuu’s clear vocals! Often the use of distortion as a musical effect can be overused, but in ‘Howl’ it was masterfully added as a complimentary highlight. And how cute are the little alien friends in this fantasy-styled MV?!?
BEWAVE – ‘SING!’
I so enjoyed this performance video from rookie group, Bewave! Their lovely harmonies, precision choreo, and that hint of calypso rhythm in the song’s melody, all come together for a delightful debut release. I’m definitely taking them up on their invitation to sing along!
Lee YeRyoung – ‘Knee’
I was immediately pulled in by the up-beat sound and encouraging message (Don’t be afraid to stand up to bullying!), of this single release. I was also impressed that this new artist isn’t a Kpop industry trainee, but rather, YeRyoung is an influencer on TikTok and Youtube. I’m totally here for this unconventional debut!
An ShinAe – ‘Hold Me Now’
I’m pretty particular when it comes to adding a ballad to my playlist. It has to be good, like really good, to make the cut. I was absolutely captivated by the a cappella opening to ‘Hold Me Now’. The combination of ShinAe’s emotional vocals and the piano accompaniment is so simple, yet SO powerful!! Needless to say, it made the cut!
Lee ChaeYeon – ‘Don’t’
‘Don’t’ is the gotta-get-up-and-start-dancing song, for today’s playlist! The beat is addictive and I loved that switch-up for the bridge. This is clearly one of those tracks that I can’t play just once — anyone else hitting repeat?!?
3piece – ‘Light Up’
This recent drop from the rookie trio, 3piece, is a sassy, jazzy-pop treat! In Kpop, where most companies seem to be debuting younger and younger groups, it’s refreshing to come across a more mature set of ladies — I’m enjoying their sound and throwback vibe!
1000° – ‘So Obvious’
Highlighting her powerful, low-tone vocals, this sultry, rock-styled single from 1000° is very bewitching. Don’t let this solo artist fly under your radar — her 2024 releases have been unwaveringly solid and excellent additions to my playlists!
I’m always excited to discover up-and-coming, or lesser known artists! And these fabulous, female artists deserve lots of love, don’t you agree?!
Until the next playlist,
화이팅!
