The Korean original series “The 8 Show” rose to No. 1 on Netflix’s weekly chart for non-English TV series, the global streaming service said Wednesday.
The dark comedy thriller, released on May 17, garnered 4.8 million total views during the May 20-26 period.
Adapted from Bae Jin-soo’s Naver webtoons “Money Game” and “Pie Game,” the series delves into the tale of eight individuals confined to a multifloor space, competing in a high-stakes reality competition.
As the players navigate the game, where they make more money as time goes on, they deal with making friends and enemies, all while trying to figure out the best way to use their time to win.
Starring Ryu Jun-yeol and Chun Woo-hee, the eight-part series marked the directorial debut of Han Jae-rim of such popular films as “The Face Reader” (2013), “The King” (2016) and “Emergency Declaration” (2022). (Yonhap)
