Lost You Forever Part 1 Delivers Near Perfect Adaptation of Novel Last Summer and Now Part 2 is Scheduled for Release July 10, 2024

So Lost You Forever may just suffer the most of a hit drama getting the momentum wind sucked out of it thanks to splitting into two parts. Part 1 aired last summer and was as closed to what I had hoped for being a mega fan of the source novel. This is probably as good as it gets in terms of faithful drama adaptation with excellent execution. Of all of Tong Hua novels only Bu Bu Jing Xin stands alone as better than anything anyone expected and then some, and depending on how Part 2 goes it could give BBJX a run for its money. What makes the drama adaptation of LYF so good is it’s adherence to the novel setting, characters, dialogue, plot, and pacing – it basically knows the novel is perfect and just adapts it as is, with slight tweaks that have the blessing of Tong Hua since she’s the screenwriter for the adaptation. But none of the above would work if the main foursome cast wasn’t also spot on. The majority of the praise has to go to Yang Zi, she carries the drama on her shoulders as Xiao Liu/Xiao Yao and her amazing three men are each the essential but vastly different water, dirt, air to her growing Phoenix Tree. I like Xiao Yao and Zhuan Xu/Cang Xuan the same level in the novel and drama, I like Jing much better in the drama, and I love Xiang Liu more in the novel. But this year long break really took my mind of the drama and now hearing at last that LYF Part 2 will air a month from now on July 10th I’m all like “sure, okay” rather than super excited. I hate feeling this way and will do my best to psyche myself back up before my Xiao Yao and her three men return to the small screen.
