On June 1, 2024, a post titled “NCT’s international fans send a protest truck in front of Starbucks” was shared with TheQoo, a popular South Korean online community forum. In the post, the original poster shared photos of the protest truck in front of a Starbucks branch in South Korea.
They also included a tweet from the X (formerly Twitter) account NCTzen Humanity & Help Indonesia. In their tweet, they state that they do not want NCT or any SM Entertainment artist to promote with Starbucks. They add that they also don’t want the group to work with any company that is financing the genocide in Palestine.

우리는 엔시티 또는 귀하의 아티스트가 S**BUC*KS 또는 팔레스타인에서 대량 학살 자금을 조달하는 회사를 연관시키거나 홍보하는 것을 원하지 않습니다.

People are currently boycotting Starbucks because of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Despite not funding the IOF and lacking any locations in Israel, Starbucks has come under fire for attempting to sue labor unions that have expressed support for Palestine.
Hello, SM Entertainment
We do NOT want NCT DREAM or any of your artists to associate or promote STARBUCKS or any companies that are financing a genocide in Palestine.

Due to this, NCTzens are upset that the group is working with Starbucks. It appears the members themselves are also against the collaboration, with Taeyong and Renjun sharing stories that supposedly urge fans to boycott Starbucks.
Taeyong has stopped drinking SB since the boycott started and now even he’s in the military and has only few hours to use his phone he’s still being the only one who speak up and posting it on his IG declaring that he’s indeed boycotting sb and NOT supporting any collaboration. pic.twitter.com/kR4F4pMq1v

While the protest truck was largely praised by international NCTzens, Korean netizens are not as ecstatic. They called the fans insane and even questioned if they had lost their minds. People considered this behavior idiotic and criticized international fans for their activism.

Others pointed out that the protest truck was not even sent to Starbucks’ main headquarters in South Korea. Instead, it was sent to a brand in Cheongdam, where the workers likely had no say in the collaboration. Many questioned why they would send it there rather than SM Entertainment or the HQ of Starbucks. Many believed that they should limit their boycott of Starbucks to just America.
Korean netizens believe that the actions of international fans are harming NCT’s marketability to brands in South Korea and that they are actually hurting NCT’s image by doing this. International fans, on the other hand, do not want to see their artists promote a brand that is neutral or on the side of the oppressor during a genocide.

- “Wow, their activism sure looks good… LOL.”
- “Sigh, they are causing trouble.”
- “This is hilarious. Go send it to their headquarters instead. This is so stupid.”
- “Wow… This is nuts.”
- “This isn’t even the headquarters of Starbucks, this is their Cheongdam branch. What’s the point of sending it there?”
