“Queen of Tears” has dethroned “Crash Landing on You” as tvN’s highest-rated drama in history after scoring a nationwide Nielsen rating of 24.850% on Sunday night.

The romantic series, starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, attracted 6.399 million viewers nationwide on its 16th and final episode, making it the most-watched program on April 28, 2024, according to data from Nielsen Korea.

Earlier this month, “Queen of Tears” surpassed the four-million viewer mark, joining the company of only eight other primetime dramas to achieve that elusive feat since 2021.

The series also surpassed the peak rating of “SKY Castle” (23.779%) and is now the third-highest rated Korean cable drama ever, trailing only JTBC’s “The World of the Married” (28.371%) and “Reborn Rich” (26.948%).

Rounding out the top 10 are “Crash Landing on You” (21.683%), “Reply 1988,” “Goblin,” “Doctor Cha,” “Mr. Sunshine,” and “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.” (See the full ranking.)

This achievement marks another milestone in the successful career of screenwriter Park Ji-eun, who also penned “Crash Landing on You” and the 2014 phenomenon “My Love From the Star” that launched Kim Soo-hyun to international fame.

For Kim Soo-hyun, “Queen of Tears” marks his most successful drama in a decade, while for Kim Ji-won, it becomes her most popular work after the 2016 hit “Descendants of the Sun.”

The drama’s popularity extends beyond TV ratings and online buzz, as it consistently ranks among the most-watched non-English series on Netflix worldwide.

“Queen of Tears” will be replaced by “Midnight Romance in Hagwon” on May 11.
