In today’s collection of Connections, the categories can be a little tricky but with a few hints, you should be able to hit the ground running. If you can start narrowing it down, the harder categories might become more clear as you go along. As always, we have provided both a few hints to try to help you guess right before we spoil the answers.
Like Connections, the New York Times features a trove of other daily puzzle games, including old favorites like the Crossword and new ones like Wordle. While you may have to have a paid subscription to the NYT for the big crossword puzzle, the site also features Mini Crossword for those with less time and who want to guess on the go. It’s the perfect bite-sized chunk of words to solve and we recommend it to any newspaper lovers.

NET |
This one actually took us a second go today. We had all but “Clear” grouped together and it was not one of our initial choices. We even solved this category second instead of first! Luckily, with one bad guess, we made it right on the second attempt. “Make” and “Earn” were the biggest clues here with “Net” following.

STAFF |
We had not initially guessed that this was the category, as it’s a bit of a tricky one. We also got caught up in “Staff” being a term for employee rather than a cool fantasy staff like it’s supposed to be. However, by guessing the other three all had to do with adornments and the only other word that had to do with people being “Staff” we got there in the end.

We really, badly, desperately wanted “Suite” to be in this category. It was such a good red herring and almost cost us the game! However, with the hint that we were one word away and feeling sure about “Bridge,” “Deck” and “Keel” we ended up slotting “Hatch” in and finding out we were right.

CLEF |
SECTION |
SPAN |
SUITE |
We actually got this category right first for the completely wrong reasons. To us, it seemed that all of these could be synonyms for a “section” of something. “Section” is obvious, and “Span” and “Suite” both have spatial connotations as well. “Clef” was not quite there but it does have a direct influence on sections of music. However, when the category name popped, we realized that these are all indeed things that could just have a “C” in front of them.
