tripleS Faces Boycott From Following Dorm Controversy + ‘Fan’ Avoids Member In Fanmeeting

Fifth-gen K-pop girl group tripleS is currently put into the spotlight for revealing their living conditions. As most idols tend to secure dormitories during their promotions, tripleS shared that a more independent lifestyle was being applied instead of traditional dorm living.

According to the members, they are free to live independently in their family homes or solo places.

“Though it’s so fun and enjoyable to get together and put our strength to promote, there are some realistic problems that come with it. So, during our non-promotional period, we are allowed to freely live where we want to.”

This new way of living sparked both shock and backlash from netizens. Eventually, tripleS member Kim Yooyeon apologized to fans.

“I thought about it a lot while writing it down. I felt apologetic and upset when I thought about what we said on Signal yesterday.”

“I hope you guys consider it as a vacation of sorts for me and you don’t think too much of it. When I move back into the dorms after one or two months, it will be shown on Signal too.

During non-promotional periods, I’ll be going with the members, whether it’ll be having lunch, dinner, or practicing. Don’t worry too much.”

On June 14, netizens made a forum to discuss the current boycott of tripleS. OP shared a photo featuring a man avoiding member Sohyun during a fanmeeting. The author also shared tweets from frustrated K-netz, who voiced out their anger at the man.

Translation:

“P**verted f**ker, please act your age and wake up a bit. What can you do about it?”

Translation:

“TripleS usually lives in the dorm, but this time, they said that the members who aren’t promoting can live in their own house

But the fans don’t want them to leave their dorms so they’re now boycotting the members who left the dorm.”

The author also posted harsh online comments encouraging the boycott

  • “Don’t talk to them and don’t look at their face, just sit in front of the member but face the opposite direction, sit with your back turned against her.”
  • “My acquaintance is going tomorrow. I’ll ask if there really are people acting like that.”
  • “What about sitting with your back against them towards your second bias?”
  • “That’s good too. Anyways, don’t even look at those deserters, make it so obvious that even the members around can feel it.”

However, fans were angered by the rude gesture.

  • “What a f**king loser.”
  • “I pity the idol, why would you do that?”
  • “I hope that guy gets kicked out from the fanclub.”
  • “The audacity that these incel men have. Sohyun wouldn’t even look at him if it wasn’t her job.”
  • “Just when I thought K-pop fans couldn’t get more insane they are actually boycotting kids for staying with their parents.”
