When is ‘The Outlaws’ season three on TV?

Stephen Merchant’s crime comedy The Outlaws is back for a third season, but when will the new episodes be on TV?

The Outlaws follows the lives of seven strangers from different backgrounds who are brought together to complete their sentences of community service in Bristol. However, when they stumble upon a bag of money belonging to a crime boss, the group find themselves being pulled even further into a life of unlawfulness.

The first season aired in 2021, with its follow-up coming a year later. It was created by Merchant alongside Elgin James, who had previously been in the Boston gang Friends Stand United.

Merchant also stars in the show as Greg Dillard, a socially awkward lawyer who has just been through a divorce. He is joined in the show by Christopher Walken, who plays Frank Sheldon, a former conman, with Darren Boyd (Spy) and Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer) in supporting roles.

When is The Outlaws season three on TV?

Merchant confirmed that filming for season three had begun back in May 2023. “The rumours are true. Delighted to confirm that #TheOutlaws Season 3 is now filming in Bristol,” he wrote on Instagram. “What peril lies ahead for our merry band of lawbreakers? We can’t wait for you to find out.”

Now, all five episodes of the completed season are available to stream on the BBC iPlayer in the UK. They were made available on May 30, the same day that the first episode aired on BBC One. They will be going out on the channel once a week.

Outside the UK, the show is also available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in many territories, including the US, Canada and Australia.

What has Stephen Merchant said about the new season?

Merchant has told Radio Times that despite choosing to end previous shows The Office and Extras, which he co-created with Ricky Gervais, after just two seasons, he has now found the “thrill” of returning a third time to write new directions for the characters he has created.

He has noted that he is not sure whether there will be a fourth season of The Outlaws, saying “never say never”, but that the “option” is there.
